Soundaffects On Go4 It On BBC Radio 4

Monday 09 February 2009

“What a fantastic project” commented Barney Harwood, a well known face on CBBC and presenter of the children’s radio programme Go4It on Radio 4.

He was talking about the SoundAffects My Family project, which was featured on Go4It on Sunday 8th February. The programme included broadcasts of recordings made with children at linked schools Galliard Primary in Edmonton London, and St Anthony’s Primary School in Denu in the Volta region of Ghana. Children at both ends of the link described on air their own varied family lives, and shared thoughts on everything from favourite pets to caring for disabled siblings.

The “GFI-ers” (children invited on to the programme as guests) gave their own reactions; “Whenever I throw a tantrum and I say I hate my family, my mum reminds me that some kids in the world don’t even have families to look after them, don’t even have mums!” commented one boy. “I don’t think I really ever understood what that could mean until right now.”
